Full Moon in Capricorn: Reflections and Revelations

And frankly, what have I achieved in the first half of this year?

I love full moons and always have. There’s something utterly captivating about how glorious she is as she sails across the sky, smiling down benevolently. Every full moon I pop outside for a chat, and always thank her for where I am in life. I am fortunate to have lived and be living in such wonderful places, and to enjoy my jobs, especially this one – a full time writer. It’s only this year that I’ve started to focus on the astrological significances of the moon’s phases, and how to work with those influences every month.

On June 21st it was the Full Moon in Capricorn, and on July 21st there was a second one! The second full moon is called a Blue Moon, because the second Full Moon in Capricorn is in the same astrological sign in a year, adding a layer of uniqueness and intensity. These also bring a blend of the emotional, nurturing qualities of the Moon, and the disciplined, ambitious nature of Capricorn. There’s an emphasis on balancing emotions (represented by the Moon) with practical concerns and ambitions. The first full moon also followed the summer solstice, so there was an extra charge to the energies that abound. Consequently, this is a good time to evaluate the previous six months and see what I want to achieve in the second half of the year, personally and professionally.

First, let’s have an overview of this full moon’s astrological significance:

  • Emotional and Practical Balance: Capricorn is an Earth sign known for its practicality, ambition, and sense of responsibility. When the Full Moon is in Capricorn, it’s a good time to evaluate how your feelings and personal life align with your career and long-term goals.
  • Achievement and Recognition: Full Moons are a time of culmination and completion. In Capricorn, this full moon might highlight achievements, bringing recognition for hard work and efforts, particularly in professional or public life. It’s a period when you may see the results of your past efforts and dedication. This full moon encourages us to review our plans, set realistic goals, and implement strategies to achieve them. It’s a favourable time to make concrete steps towards stability and success.
  • Letting Go of Control: Capricorn can sometimes be overly controlling or rigid. The Full Moon in Capricorn is a reminder to release any excessive need for control and to trust the process. (This is one of my favourite things to remind myself when things don’t always seem to be going to be plan, or as fast as I’d like). It’s time to let go of fears related to failure and to embrace a more balanced approach to ambitions.
  • Family and Tradition: Capricorn also relates to tradition, authority, and family lineage. This full moon might bring attention to family matters, ancestral patterns, or traditional values. It’s an opportunity to reflect on these areas and to make peace with any longstanding issues.
  • Astrological Aspects: The specific aspects this full moon makes with other planets will further influence its energy. For example, harmonious aspects with planets like Jupiter or Venus can enhance growth and positive outcomes, while challenging aspects with planets like Mars or Pluto might bring intense transformations or confrontations.

Overall, the Full Moon in Capricorn encourages a blend of emotional insight with practical action, fostering a time for serious reflection on personal and professional goals, as well as the structures supporting them. It’s also important to remember that there was a New Moon in Capricorn on January 11th this year, so another reason to evaluate progress over the past six months. Now you see why I’m in a reflective mood, and taking stock of life! I think it’s a great thing to do over the course of every month, too, but they’re small evaluations – for me, at least.

We spend so much time rushing about, ticking things off lists – yes, I have constant lists – that’s it’s calming to reflect on our achievements, and realistically plan for what we still need to do. Note the word calm! This is a time for reflection, and Capricorn’s earth energy can help balance emotions and provide a grounded perspective.

So, what have I achieved?

If I look back over twelve months, I have achieved lots of things!

  • I set up my shop Happenstance Books – it was lots of work, and continues to be, too. But I love it and the opportunities it gives me to be more creative.
  • I set up my Ream subscription, Happenstance Book Club. I love that too!
  • I decided to follow my witchy path and investigate it fully. I listen to podcasts for inspiration, and engage in aspects of the craft that resonate with me – journaling, garden witchery, and tarot readings.
  • I promised myself that I would be more balanced in my approach to work, and not try to do all the things all at once! It’s difficult sometimes, but I do it. Things take longer to produce, but other than book deadlines with my editor and release dates I want to adhere to, other things are flexible.
  • To blog more.

The last six months and my plans for the next six:

  • I promised to set up more Facebook Ads, specifically to drive sales to my shop. I have done that, and most of the time they’re working really well. I’ll continue to build on these.
  • I have published two books, written a third that will be out in August, and will be starting the 13th White Haven Witches book very soon. I have completed the final White Haven Hunters book, which was bitter sweet. I love the characters, but it was time to set them free! They will of course be appearing in other series, and some may well get their own novella/ book, too.
  • I’m planning on developing more material for Ream, such as short stories and extras that accompany my books.
  • I have produced more merchandise for my store, and intend to develop more.
  • I have started the process of German translations for the White Haven Witches series. This is very exciting, but can be quite a long process.
  • I have arranged interviews on several witchy podcasts in which I’ll talk about my writing and witchcraft. I have completed the WitchLit Podcast interview with Victoria Raschke, which was lots of fun, and have more lined up. Obviously I’ll share the dates of those with you when I have them.
  • I have produced lots of audiobooks this year with Diana Croft, and one with Adam Gold, and there are more to come. By the middle of next year at the latest, I should be up to date with my backlist.

How can you work with Full Moon in Capricorn?

It may be a couple of days after the full moon, but its energy is still with us. Other things we can do include:

  • Journaling and Reflection. Writing in a journal can help organise your thoughts and reflections, making it easier to set clear intentions. Set aside time to write about your goals, ambitions, and the structures in your life. Use prompts such as “What long-term goals are most important to me?” and “How can I create more discipline in my daily routine?” Reflect on your progress and areas where you can improve.
  • Creating a Vision Board: This is great if you’re a visual person. A vision board visually represents your goals and aspirations, helping you stay focused and motivated. Gather images, quotes, and symbols that represent your career goals, ambitions, and personal aspirations. Arrange them on a board or digital platform. Place your vision board somewhere you’ll see it regularly to remind yourself of your goals and the steps needed to achieve them. If you use Pinterest, this could be a great place for your vision board.
  • Releasing and Letting Go: Letting go of what no longer serves you creates space for new opportunities and growth. Write down things, habits, or situations you want to release on a piece of paper. As you write, focus on letting go of any negative energy or attachments. Safely burn the paper in a fireproof bowl, watching the smoke rise to symbolise the release of those burdens.
  • Capricorn-Themed Ritual Bath: This is a lovely one! A ritual bath can cleanse your energy and prepare you for new beginnings. Prepare a bath with sea salt, essential oils like cedarwood or vetiver, and any Capricorn-associated herbs like sage or lavender. As you soak, visualize the water washing away any negativity and filling you with Capricorn’s disciplined and ambitious energy.
  • Crystal Work – great if you love working with crystals. Using crystals can enhance the energy of your rituals, especially those associated with Capricorn. Suggested Crystals: Onyx, garnet, and smoky quartz. Cleanse your chosen crystals by running them under water or smudging them with sage. Hold the crystals in your hands, set your intentions, and place them on your altar or carry them with you to maintain their grounding and ambitious energy.
  • Candle Lighting Ceremony. I love candles, and always have them burning around the house. Lighting candles symbolises illumination and clarity, perfect for reflecting on goals and ambitions. Choose a black or green candle to represent Capricorn. Carve a symbol or word representing your goals into the candle. Light the candle and focus on the flame, meditating on your intentions and the steps you need to take to achieve them.

These are obviously just a few ideas of ways to celebrate and use the Full Moon energy of Capricorn. I would have posted this earlier, but colds and brain fog are not conducive to writing! However, as I mentioned earlier, it’s not too late to set your intentions and plan for the second half of the year.

If you have any recommendations or suggestions to celebrate this event, please share in the comments below.

Absolutely Fantastic what you have achieved TJ. Looking forward to what’s ahead. Me personally, I would love to see a follow up of the Arthurian books, to see where they are now, what’s been happening etc. Those books are what got me hooked, I had never read anything that left me wanting more and more., then the Witches, then my nephilim, and now moonfell. IOutstanding. I have said this before, your imagination is off the scale! So congratulations to all that you have achieved and will continue to achieve in the future. Your amazing! Thankyou 🧙🏻‍♀️🥂🍾💜
